Like New Year’s resolutions I used to set one focus word as compass for the year. Words such as ‘compassion’, ‘intention’, gratitude’, ‘consistency’, ‘strength’, ‘posture’, ‘commitment’.., you get the drift.
This year, however, I decided to change it up because I realized something big: while working with one word as focus for my actions, I found myself often stuck and not empowered enough by the one direction this word offered.
This year I decided on a word that reminds me of a constant process, a cyclic move that nurtures growth by the equilibrium of moving forward no matter the challenge ahead.
Here’s what I came up with as my focus word for 2023…

How do you feel about this? Does it inspire you?
I’m in my mid-fifties and pretty much a fire-personality. Being stuck or stagnant does not feed my Soul. Over the years I’ve learned that not all moving-forward-actions are beneficial if they are too linear in oversight.
In fact, I often felt blindsided by the ripple effects coming back to me, hurting, confusing and slowing down my progress.
I learned that keeping a 360 view in preparation of my actions minimized the ripple effects or made them a planned part of my progress. No major surprises, detours or painful experiences were the result. And I love it!
To no surprise I worked on refining that process and, in its simplest form, R.O.A.R. describes it perfectly. The longer, more detailed version is ‘The ke.i Method: Own the CHANGE You Desire’. It’s the formula I use to get to the next level of experiencing my life, every year a little bit greater.
What is your focus word for 2023?
And do you use a singular one or an abbreviation like R.O.A.R.?
Share with me and other readers in the comments. It’s a great way to be supportive and get inspired too.
